Henry Flory, Violin Recital
Described by critics as a “poet” of the violin, award-winning violinist Henry Flory is rapidly earning a reputation as one of the most dynamic and charismatic violinists of his generation, with a burgeoning career spanning the US, Europe, and Asia. Since his debut as an orchestral soloist at the age of 12, Henry has captivated audiences all over the world as a soloist and chamber musician. Described as an “immense talent”, Henry has performed in some of the world’s most famous halls, including Carnegie Hall, Strathmore Hall, the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Austria’s Mozarteum “Great Hall”, Japan’s Ishikawa Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as various other venues in Belgium, France, England, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, Japan, and the U.S. Henry has made it his mission to explore a wide variety of repertoire and styles, highlighting the drama and emotional range of the violin, and bringing life to rarely played masterpieces by composers such as Prokofiev, Saint-Saëns, and Ysaÿe.
A dedicated chamber musician, Henry has enjoyed an in-depth exploration of the violin and piano sonata repertoire with pianist Matthew Graybil, resulting in performances of Debussy, Mozart, Schubert, Janáček, Ravel, and Beethoven throughout New York City. Other recent chamber performances have included a quartet tour of the Czech Republic, and performances with various chamber ensembles, including the Annapolis Chamber Players, the Takoma Ensemble, and the National Philharmonic Quartet.
A native of Washington, DC, Henry studied at the Conservatoire de Montpellier (France) at the age of seven, and since then has studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins and The Juilliard School. Henry holds his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Juilliard, where he worked with Sylvia Rosenberg and Lewis Kaplan. More recently, Henry spent a year at the Manhattan School of Music as a Professional Studies Candidate, working with Grigory Kalinovsky. Past teachers include Jody Gatwood, Aaron Krosnick, Victor Danchenko, and Nadine Moehlenkamp.
In addition to his solo and chamber music career, Henry frequently appears as concertmaster of the American Pops Orchestra and the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
